What's the Truth about Sexual Purity and How to Keep It?
By Cky J. Carrigan, Ph.D.
PRACTICAL LIFE-PRINCIPLES FOR SEXUAL PURITY
I. Biblical Mandate: All passionate sexual behavior outside the covenant of holy matrimony is a serious sin called fornication. This fornication constitutes unfaithfulness to a present or future spouse.
II. Practical Life-Principles For Obedience To the Biblical Mandate:
Whereas passionate sexual behavior is defined as any action which generates a sexual response.
Whereas the male sexual response pattern begins with less stimuli and peeks more quickly than the female sexual response pattern.
Therefore, the benchmark which indicates crossing the line from appropriate behavior to passionate behavior is associated with the beginning of the male sexual response pattern.
So, to prevent unholy sexual behavior, Married and Unmarried Saints (Holy Ones) should never be in the company of a person of the opposite sex who is not their spouse, parent, child, sibling, etc., without the presence of other persons, preferably other Saints who share their holy values.
So, to prevent unholy sexual behavior, Married and Unmarried Saints should never kiss, touch, speak, smell, dress, or move their bodies in such a way that may generate a sexual response from any person who is not their spouse.
Specific dating or courtship principles for unmarried romance: Associate only with, and seek the courtship or dating company of, other Saints that share your holy values on this point. And employ like-minded Saint-Chaperons during courtship in cars, dwellings, and out of the way places.
III. Theological Clarification:
While it is not in itself, or in every situation, a sin to be alone with, or touch a person, not one's spouse, it is however a sin when that action turns to passion. These principles are designed to protect Saints from crossing the line of unholy passion which is so easily and so often crossed by believers.
